concrete wall

Why is it that I always fall in love with the expensive stuff?  I'll finally find exactly what I've been imagining and daydreaming about for what seems like an eternity and then I'll look at the price tag and instantly feel discouraged.  Well...here I am again.

Although we have many a detail to complete on the entrance level of our rowhome, our master bedroom is in dire need of some attention.  We haven't done ANYTHING upstairs yet because we've been concentrating on the areas our guests will see and spend time in (yes, I care what other people think).  However, it's getting to the point where our bedroom feels like the most uninviting space in the house, and so it's time to do something. I'm hesitant to paint the entire room (heaven forbid I cover up my beloved white), but I think the wall behind the bed could use some attention and would serve as a great feature wall.  I want to do something different and interesting and when I came across this concrete wallpaper, my heart began to sing and doves all around the world were released into freedom (OK, that didn't actually happen, but you get the idea).

The Concrete Wall collection is designed by Norwegian photographer Tom Haga and is the result of photographing raw and refined concrete walls, raw cinder block walls and even graffiti.  The imagery is based on high-resolution photography and no pattern is ever repeated, resulting in a very realistic finish.  The problem?  It's expensive.  I'm not sure that the concrete wall I've been dreaming of will be able to make an appearance in our master bedroom this time around, but once we're in our more long term abode, my credit card just might have to do some heavy lifting.  xoxo

Happy Monday to all!

vintage camper birdhouse

This is such an adorable little birdhouse, I just had to share it with you.  It's design is inspired by the Shasta campers of the 1950's...I mean common, the freaking door even has an awning. Redic! xoxo

wallpaper's got my back

As a follow up to yesterday's post on open storage, I thought I would share with you an idea to make your possessions pop even more when on display; wallpaper!  Adding a tease of colour and pattern to an unexpected place like the inside of your closet or the backs of shelves creates the perfect backdrop for your clothing, dish ware, books and other trinkets.  I think if either of the above closets were mine, I'd probably just set up camp and never leave.

Happy 4th of July to my American readers! xoxo

open storage

It's fairly common to live in a space that lacks adequate storage options.  This is especially true for those who live in a compact apartment or townhouse, but often times even more spacious abodes fall short in the storage department.  The solution?  Get creative with the way you organize and display your possessions. Yes, I know this requires being a bit more organized, but the outcome can look great and can prevent the mad hunt for that item you stashed in the back of a closet or bottom of a drawer.

Above are some beautiful examples of possessions on display.  With open shelving in the kitchen, your plates and cookware become art rather than supplies.  Are your stilettos piled high in the bottom of a small entryway closet like mine are?  Use painted crown moulding to create a feature wall where you can grab and go with ease.  Towels, cotton balls and bubble bath become easily accessible and look rather dashing when they aren't chucked under the sink.  And who would have thought your clothes could look so beautiful left hanging around?  All of these options provide motivation to de-clutter and find re-stored beauty in the everyday.  Storage, smorage!

Oh, and to all of my Canadian readers, I hope you had a fantastic Canada Day long weekend!  Hubby and I went up to his family's cabin at Nicola Lake to celebrate his mom's birthday and blow out some candles  for our 145 year old country.  Two celebrations in one day, some sunshine and enough food to feed an army made for a wonderful time had by all.  And to our neighbours to the South, wishing you the BEST day tomorrow! xoxo

hello.

The Hello. type on this yellow door makes me happy. If I didn't live in a strata, I would 100% do this. xoxo

How cool are these pieces from Bark Decor?  Sara and Shana are the sister duo behind this eco-conscious line which is all designed and produced in their home studio in Massachusetts.  Sara is an illustrator, graphic designer and screen printer and Shana is a jewelry designer.  Above are a few of my favourite pieces from their collection but they have so many amazing creations, you'll have to check them out for yourself. xoxo
